Our History
- At the monthly meeting, the Fire Department voted to purchase an ambulance (a red Ford station wagon) formerly owned and operated by Grant Clements. The Squad started operating with 33 members at the end of April.

- A First Aid class was to begin at the Livonia Fire House.
Emergency calls were placed with the Livingston County Sheriff's office or En-9127.
- The first group of Firemen received their Basic First Aid cards at the monthly meeting.
- At the first annual ambulance meeting it was reported that there had been 102 calls in the first 154 days of operation.
- The first Advanced First Aid class began.
- At the monthly ambulance meeting there were 34 active members, they had answered 311 calls, and driven 15,000 miles over the past year. The Squad was considering purchase of a larger ambulance.
- The Squad put a red Miller-Meteor Cadillac ambulance into service. The unit cost $15,187.00 and could accommodate four patients and also provided more head room.
- At the Annual Meeting, the Squad had 36 members.

- A second ambulance was put into service, a 1970 orange Cadillac built by Superior Coach Co.
- At the Annual Meeting it reported the Squad has answered 365 calls, driven 19,000 miles and had 30 active members. The first Medical Emergency Technician class was held, and 12 Squad members became qualified.
- Emergency Medical Technician training replaced Red Cross First Aid programs. Paul DeMartini became Captain of the Emergency Squad and one of the first EMT instructors in Livingston County.
- Requests for emergency medical care were made to 346-3434 and on-duty members were notified by telephone. If there was not a full crew within three minutes, the fire siren was sounded, thereby requesting a crew.
- Livonia Ambulance Squad Annual Recognition Award presented to Paul Martini. Paul's dedication to make the Livonia Squad the best in the county was evidenced by his nearly two decades of service as Captain. He received the first Emergency Medical Technician certification in the area. Paul went on to become an EMT Category 3 Instructor and an instructor in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. By 1988, he had made over 4,071 ambulance runs and was responsible for training many EMTs and First Responders in the Livingston County Area.
- The first radio pagers were issued; only four were available, and these were switched from member to member as they took duty.
- The first modular ambulance was purchased, a Type 1 unit.
- Advanced Life Support was first provided by Monroe Ambulance; they operated a unit out of Livonia Fire Department.
- ALS Service provided by Livonia Ambulance Squad Volunteers started.
